Jonah Dean
Improved Attention Span!

Before vision therapy, Jonah could not maintain eye contact nor keep his eyes fixated on anyone. They would be in constant motion. Teaching him to read was a challenge- Jonah was constantly moving because he was trying to get the print into focus. He was trying to make it single because he had double vision. While reading, he held his book far away, he would skip lines, lose his place constantly and not be able to find it. He hated sounding out words and would look only at the initial sound, ignoring the rest of the sounds, then want to give up. Jonah was instantly tired when he would begin to read and had a very short attention span. Reading was the last thing he wanted to do. Now, Jonah can look at anyone in the eye while listening and talking with them and continue to maintain eye contact. When he reads, he stays relatively still for a six year old boy and holds books at a normal distance. He tracks better, does not lose his place as easily and can usually find it if he loses it. Jonah is successful at sounding out words on his own. He looks at all of the letters in a word. He enjoys reading and wants to finish his books instead of quitting in the middle. According to Jonah, “I like reading better now. I can read better.”
